Developed and supported by the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities (the Alliance), the Southfield Community Anti-Drug Coalition is the newest member of the Oakland County based organization.

Thanks to generous funding from the Oakland Community Health Network to support the Alliance’s Greater Urban Community Coalition Initiative (GUCCI), implemented in October 2016, which is tasked to provide practical, culturally sensitive, and data driven support from local experts and residents to ensure each child in every school has the necessary resources to live a safe, healthy and long life. A key component of GUCCI is to reduce and prevent underage drinking, prescription and opiate drug misuse, illicit marijuana and tobacco use among youth and adults in highly minority populated communities across Oakland County. The immediate service areas include Hazel Park, Pontiac, Madison Heights, the Ferndale Public School District area and now, Southfield.

“The addition of a new coalition at the south end of the county is another example of the great work the Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities is doing in our communities,” states Christina Nicholas Administrator, Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Services at Oakland Community Health Network. “Increasing prevention efforts in another quadrant of the county is an important step in addressing the misuse of prescription drugs, alcohol, and other drugs.”

“With the support of Oakland Community Health Network, we have been able to further increase prevention efforts to greatly benefit the people we serve. This new coalition is integral to keeping our county a healthy one and empowering this community to make a positive change as we combat substance misuse together,” stated Julie Brenner, CEO of the Alliance.

This coalition will allow access to new opportunities for positive community involvement for Southfield including the Alliance’s dedicated resources and technical assistance to ensure success.

“We want to be a resource in Southfield for those in crisis, and their families. Prevention is important. Our goal is reaching youth before there is an issue and alerting parents to warning signs. It will take the whole village coming together to tackle this issue in order to make real traction, and we’re ready to be an essential part of it,” explained Tiffany D. Tilley, MBA Southfield Community Anti-Drug Coalition Director.

The Southfield Community Anti-Drug Coalition is located at 22170 W. Nine Mile Rd.
Southfield, MI 48033 and can be reached via phone at (248) 372-6898.
